Howdy folks! Just spent the whole day prepping a mailing to independent radio stations across Canada of RED HOT CANDY HEART. We decided not to mail it right before Xmas, so hopefully January will be a good time to reach all these music directors. Also, I’ve got my FIRST song for the next (third) CD, Savannah’s Song, about 95% recorded/produced and it sounds awesome. I worked with John Thiel at Horizon Music, a wizard in the studio. Denis Dufresne (of the band “Pear”) put down some wonderful mandolin and fiddle, and I put down some accordion, which sounded great (although it’s been quite awhile since I did accordion in the studio). Also, this was Ben Jackson (our new drummer)’s first time in the studio with me, and he played beautifully. That said, it will be at least a year or so until I have the rest of the material ready for my third CD…need to take my time to think about its direction. However, we made just one disk, of only Savannah’s Song, for Pat – the woman (with the horse) for whom I wrote the song.  We went to her place on Boxing Day and gave it to her at a party she was having. She had her barn all decked out in Xmas lights, and a big pot of homemade VEGETARIAN chili on the stove- so yes, she is serious about loving animals, not just Savannah! :) Also, I am really looking forward to 2011. Gary is going to be getting his night rating (toward his commercial pilot’s license), so you can expect a flying song to come out of this somewhere! I also am planning on using Gary’s Westjet privileges to get out and gig more outside the province including ECMA’s in April in PEI. And, I am going to continue to work in the studio, learning to finesse my music into the most beautiful productions I can muster! So, lots of fun new challenges this year. The best part of a Xmas break is getting time to think, time to write, time to appreciate life! Ahh!!  By the way, I thought you might enjoy this photo of Savannah – and probably get an appreciation of why Pat loves her so much!  Isn’t she spectacular?  Certainly deserving of a song!
