I just returned home from a wonderful live music residency at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge (JPL), from May 28 to June 8, 2026.
I was booked to do two shows per day, each three hours long! Knowing that I couldn’t realistically sing for six hours a day, I did two things.
First, I brought my keyboard, so I could do about half the time simply playing piano, no vocals.
Second, I brought my full looper this time, so I could put in as many guitar and violin solos/instrumentals as possible!
One unexpected thing was that although I was booked to help open the newly renovated Elderwood lounge on May 29, it wasn’t quite ready to open when I arrived. So that meant playing in the golf club’s restaurant/lounge for a few days until the Elderwood opened on the Wednesday.
I really enjoyed both venues. The golf clubhouse was a quieter room, so I was able to shoot a little simple video there.
The Elderwood was big, spacious and beautiful – with huge windows that featured picturesque mountain views.
The instrumentation strategy worked beautifully. I got fantastic comments and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. What’s more, the accommodation and food provided was great, and easily handy to my performing location. As an avid birder, I also saw tons of beautiful birds on the surrounding lakes – from loons to mergansers, snowbirds, swallows and yellow-rumped warblers. I even saw a fat green toad on my walking pathway coming home after the last show, which was a huge highlight; they’re my favourites!
I hope to be back at the JPL in the coming months.
Thank you to the agents who booked me, and to the terrific staff at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.
