Oct 13 Show announced – and you can now buy tickets online! I’ve been asked to come and perform at the Sound Waves Folk Club as their featured act on October 13. This came as a connection to running into Richard Harrow, who mastered both of my CD’s, at the Ivan Daines’ festival. So this past Saturday I attended to see what the club was like, and get the lay of the land. I also had the pleasure of seeing Anne Loree perform, whom I’d never seen before. She is truly a creative songwriter — and has about 10 CDs of her own original tunes. She also plays both piano and guitar in her shows. She actually knew well who I was when I met her (cool – and surprising!)– and knew I played accordion as well. So she asked me to play accordion with her on one of her songs. She offered to lend me her accordion actually, but I didn’t end up using it because my super-hubby whipped home and picked mine up (we don’t live far from there — and my big fingers fit better on my accordion). Anyway, I really enjoyed playing with Anne, and we exchanged CDs. I also played/sang one of my songs to preview my show there next month.
The folk club is in a very nice church hall — there’s a stage, and round tables at which you can seat groups. They also sell wine and beer, and supply “munchie mix” so there’s something to gnaw on. The house band is comprised of Richard Harrow, Rod Walsh, and Will Mehew — great guys, with great harmonies. A highlight is Richard’s multimedia presentation — where he performs with his own “virtual” band…which you gotta see!
So mark your calendars — and we’ll see you October 13 — luckily a SATURDAY ! ;) To get there go take Fairmont Drive, and when you get 1 block south of Heritage, turn east on 83 Avenue, and you’ll see the church parking lot there on your right. (McDougall United). Tickets $15 at the door (if you want to take your chances) or plus a small service fee if you book on line, using the “E” icon link below. There are limited seats, so I recommend booking in advance.
